Srinagar, Nov 23 Around 700 players, including girls, participated in the 3-day Inter-District Tong IL Moo Do — unified martial art — championship in this summer capital. The championship, which was concluded here at S K Indoor Stadium Complex, was jointly organized by the Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council and the J&K Tong IL Moo Do Association.
The organizers of the championship said that around 700 players from different schools and clubs from nine districts of the state participated in the event. Muntaha Khursheed, Farhan Khursheed and Aqsa Fareed were awarded best players in three different categories. The trio has represented the state at various national level championships.
Lauding the association for organising a successful martial arts championship in Srinagar, Superintendent of Police (SP) South, Srinagar, Ashish Kumar Mishra said that such events provide a platform to youth to showcase their talent.
“Youth of the valley are very talented. They just need a platform to showcase their talent. Sports also helps in channelizing the energy of the youth for constructive ways,” Mr Mishra said.
Talking about the motive behind the championship, Jammu and Kashmir Tong-IL-Moo-Do Association General Secretary Arshid Aziz said by organising such events, the association is trying to send a positive message that situation has returned to normal in Kashmir valley. “The situation is better than what is shown on national media. We have been organizing such events from the last five years in the valley. We have also organized several national championships in the valley during the same time,” he said.
