‘Cannot Take Court for a Ride’: Major Blow to Mumbai-Backed JKCA Lobby as Court Stays Notice

Srinagar, June 1: In a significant development in the ongoing Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) dispute, the Court of the Additional District Judge, Srinagar, has stayed a controversial notice issued for convening a special meeting of the Association, observing that the defendants cannot be allowed to frustrate court proceedings or undermine judicial orders.

The order was passed by Additional District Judge Farooq Ahmad Bhat on an application filed by Javid Ahmad Kitab, the duly elected President of JKCA, challenging a series of notifications and resolutions issued on May 30, 2026 by JKCA office-bearers led by Honorary Secretary Vivek Khajuria.

In his petition, Kitab alleged that the impugned resolutions and the notice convening a special meeting at JKCA Headquarters, Jammu, on June 1, 2026, were issued in violation of both the JKCA Constitution and an earlier court order dated May 25, 2026.

After hearing the parties, the court noted that the allegations raised by the petitioner were serious and observed that judicial orders are paramount and cannot be bypassed through fresh resolutions and notices.

The court remarked:

“The orders passed by this court are paramount and the defendants cannot take the court for a ride and pass resolutions and notices to frustrate the court proceedings.”

The court further observed that it appeared the intention behind the impugned notice was to interfere with and undermine the ongoing judicial proceedings arising from the suit filed on May 25, 2026.

Noting the gravity of the matter, the court held that the assertions made by the petitioner warranted immediate intervention and ordered that the notice bearing No. JKCA/Secy/Jmu/2026/25 dated 30.05.2026 be stayed till June 2, 2026.

The court also directed that copies of the order be forwarded to the defendants for information and compliance and listed the matter, along with objections and the main suit, for hearing on June 2, 2026.

The development is being viewed as a major legal relief for the elected JKCA President, Javid Ahmad Kitab, who has maintained that all decisions concerning the Association must be taken strictly in accordance with the JKCA Constitution and judicial directives.
