SSFI, JKSSA Congratulate Abbas Wani on Election as Senior Vice President of Ski and Snowboard India

Srinagar, June 1: The SnowShoe Federation of India (SSFI) and the J&K SnowShoe Association (JKSSA) have congratulated former skier Mohammad Abbas Wani on his election as Senior Vice President of Ski and Snowboard India (SSI).

The elections of Ski and Snowboard India were conducted on May 31, 2026, at The Meriton, Nehru Place, New Delhi, under the supervision of Hon’ble Justice Rekha Palli (Retd.), the Court-appointed Returning Officer.

In the elections, Tanveer Singh Bajwa was elected President, while Mohammad Abbas Wani was elected Senior Vice President. Other office-bearers elected include Abhishek Joshi as Vice President, Arshi Shamim as Vice President (Female), Mohammad Arshad as Secretary General, Karan Singh Khati as Joint Secretary, Prabavathi Kumar as Joint Secretary (Female), and Renuka as Treasurer.

The Executive Members elected were Banyala Harini, Abdul Rahim, and Mohammed Parvej Khan. Himanshu Thakur was elected as Sportsperson of Outstanding Merit (Male), while Vikas Rana was elected as Sportsperson of Outstanding Merit (Female).

Abbas Wani, a former skier and former President of the Winter Games Association of J&K, has been closely associated with the promotion of winter sports in the country. He has also served as an official with the Indian contingent at the Winter Olympics and is a former MLA from Tangmarg.

Congratulating Wani on his election, JKSSA Vice President Arif Laigaroo termed the development a major boost for winter sports in Jammu & Kashmir.

“Having a top office-bearer in the national skiing body is a big boost for J&K winter sports. I know Abbas personally and am confident that he will work tirelessly for the upliftment and development of winter sports in the country and particularly in Jammu & Kashmir,” Laigaroo said.

SSFI President Mir Muddasar also congratulated Wani and said his election to a key position in the national federation would strengthen Jammu & Kashmir’s presence in the country’s winter sports administration.

“The election of Mohammad Abbas Wani as Senior Vice President of Ski and Snowboard India is a matter of pride for the winter sports fraternity of Jammu & Kashmir. His vast experience as an athlete, administrator and sports promoter will greatly benefit the growth of skiing and other winter sports across India,” Muddasar said.

Both SSFI and JKSSA expressed hope that Wani’s experience and leadership would contribute significantly to the further development of winter sports and skiing infrastructure in the country.
