After winning the toss hosts Saurashtra decided to bat first. Though getting early breakthrough and getting prize scalps of Robin Uthappa and C Pujara early, Sheldon Jackson counter attacked with quickfire 65 of 50.

At lunch Saurashtra were on 145 for the loss of three wickets at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot on the first morning of four day Ranji trophy match between J&K and hosts. Jackson was batting on 65 and Ravinder Jadeja on 21.
For J&K Mohammad Mudhasir bagged first wicket of the day while as Ram Dayal scalped wicket of dangerous looking Uthappa. Skipper Parvez Rasool bagged wicket of his counterpart Cheteswar Pujara.
