Senior cricketers who are part of the ongoing selection trials for the Ranji Trophy have categorically conveyed to J&K Cricket Association (JKCA) that they will not accept Mithun Manhas as player in the team.
Sources told KSW that some of the senior players are against the move to induct Delhi discard veteran Mithun Manhas into team as player. Mithun was hired by JKCA two years back for three year contract on coach cum player basis. However, his performance in the middle did not justify his inclusion as player and last season he withdraws midway from team as player. Though he gave back injury as the reason for withdrawal but the real thing was that he had failed to justify his place in the team.
Now as the team is about to be announced or may be already decided, Mithun is trying to show to selectors that he is ready to be included in the team as a player.
He has been training in nets at Sheri Kashmir Cricket Stadium Sonwar Srinagar with the aim impress selectors or to be more precise making his way into team directly.
Some are saying that Manhas who was left out by Delhi three years back wants to complete the milestone of 10,000 run in Indian domestic cricket arena. As Delhi left him as he used to fail lately, he was unable to achieve his dream of 10,000 run mark.
“It is totally unacceptable if they include him in team as player. By doing that they will do injustice with some deserving cricketer who should be given chance. For JK Mithun has failed both as player and coach and it lacked sense to hire him in first place,” said senior player to KSW.
Another player said JKCA can’t act pawns in the hands of Manhas as he wants to achieve the milestone.
‘When he was in his prime he refused to play for JK. Now as Delhi left him he wants to achieve his dream at the cost of J&K team. No one can justify his inclusion and JKCA can’t gift him 10,000-run mark at cost of J&K State honor,” he said.
