Star cricketer of J&K was awarded man of the match in the rain abandoned Duleep trophy four day match between India Blue and India Green at Green Park Stadium, Kanpur.
In the four day match only first day’s play was possible in which comeback hero from Kashmir starred with five wicket haul against India Blue. In its first inning India Blue were bundled out for 177 runs thanks mostly to Parvez Rasool fifer.
Making full use of the slow Green Park track, Jammu and Kashmir spinner Rasool claimed his ninth five-wicket haul in first-class cricket as the Suresh Raina-led India Blue were skitted out for 177 in 52 overs on day one of the four-day game.
In reply, India Green after getting a solid start ended the day at 100/3 in 31.5 overs. Openers Navdeep Saini (25) and Kaushik Gandhi added 53 runs before getting out in quick successions. Prashant Chopra (26, 33b, x34) was the last man to depart after being caught by S Bharat off Pankaj Singh. The side still needed 78-run to take the first innings lead when first day’s play ended.
The remaining three days play was not possible and owing to his first day heroics Parvez was awarded man of the match.
Parvez’s victims in the match started by removing skipper Raina, who gave a simple catch to Navdeep Saini after making 40 in 61 balls with the help of four hits to the fence. This, however, opened the floodgates for the Jammu and Kashmir bowler, who ripped through the India Blue innings, claiming wickets at regular intervals.
Rasool’s other victims were last match’s centurion Deepak Hooda (16), Jayadev Unadkat (3), Bhargav Bhatt (10) and Manoj Tiwary.
