Union Sports Minister’s office asks DYSS to shift athletic track from SK Stadium Bandipora

Bandipora, August 06: Office of Union Sports Minister, Kiren Rijiju, Wednesday wrote to Secretary Youth Services and Sports, Sarmad Hafeez, asking to shift the synthetic athletic track from SK Stadium Bandipora to somewhere else.

The letter, accessed by Kashmir Sports Watch, directed the DYSS to shift the construction of proposed athletic track to an alternative place, as J&K Students Association had earlier wrote to Rijiju, requesting him to intervene in the matter.

The Bandipora youth, cricket enthusiasts in particular, had held multiple protests against the construction of this athletic track, saying this will mean no cricket activities could take place in the stadium,

Since cricket is the most-played sport in the district, the sportspeople were quite disheartened with the move. Sports Council recently issued a tender notice for the construction of this track, giving rise to fresh protests.

Taking recognition of the voices against construction of this field at the designated place, J&K Students Association widely opposed the move and decided to reach Union Sports Minister, Kiren Rijiju, requesting his intervention.

Now, with his office sending down a letter in this connection; how Youth Services and Sports Department reacts will be interesting to see.
