Double hundreds have been scored at the international level, but surprisingly it was missing from India’s domestic List-A history. Karanveer Kaushal on Saturday became the first batsman to score a double ton in a Plate group match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
The Uttarakhand batsman slammed a 135-ball 202 at a strike-rate of 149.63, which had 18 boundaries and nine sixes. After put in to bat by Sikkim in Nadiad, a massive opening partnership between Karanveer and Vineet Saxena (100) helped Uttarakhand post an imposing total of 366 for 2 in 50 overs.
The previous best individual score of 187 was by Mumbai’s Ajinkya Rahane against Maharashtra in the 2007-08 season. Moreover, Karanveer is just behind Puneet Bisht at second in the batting charts of the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy, with 467 runs from seven matches at an average of 77.83.
