Fleetwood Town Draw Everton or Newcastle in Carabao Cup Quarter-Finals

London: Fleetwood Town have been handed a potential quarter-final clash against Everton or Newcastle United after continuing their remarkable Carabao Cup run with a historic victory over Arsenal.

The League Two outfit, the lowest-ranked team remaining in the competition, booked their place in the last eight by stunning Premier League champions Arsenal in a penalty shootout on Tuesday. Their achievement has turned them into one of the biggest stories of this season’s Carabao Cup.

Fleetwood will host either Everton or Newcastle United at Highbury, with the two Premier League sides scheduled to meet at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Thursday to determine their opponent.

Holders Manchester City will welcome League One side Bradford City to the Etihad Stadium in another quarter-final tie. City advanced after overcoming Brighton on penalties, while Bradford secured their place among the final eight as the other remaining club outside the Premier League.

Liverpool, meanwhile, will host Bournemouth after edging past Chelsea in a penalty shootout. The fourth quarter-final will see Crystal Palace take on Sunderland at Selhurst Park in an all-Premier League encounter.

Fleetwood’s remarkable progress has given the League Two side a rare opportunity to test themselves against top-flight opposition once again as they chase a place in the semi-finals.

The Carabao Cup quarter-finals are scheduled to take place in the week commencing 14 December.
