Srinagar: In an embarrassing display, J&K finished medal less in the first phase of Khelo India Winter Games-2025 that concluded in Leh on Monday while as hosts Ladakh emerged as overall Champion.
The first phase of Khelo India Winter Games concluded in Leh on Monday with hosts emerging out as overall champions with seven medals while as first three edition champions J&K finished without any medals in an embarrassing display of sorry performance. In Leh, competitions of Ice Skating and Ice Hockey were held in which J&K failed to secure even a single medal.
It is one of the worst performances from the J&K in the games so far as almost zero preparation went into preparing teams for the big event and to bring back the overall title.
J&K were overall champions of first three editions of Khelo India Winter Games that started in 2020. However, last year J&K failed and finished lowly sixth-seventh on points table. This year it has gone further down, with J&K athletes failing to win even a single medal in Leh.
Now the focus will shift to second phase of Khelo India Winter Games scheduled to be held in Gulmarg from February 22 to 25 in Skiing and Ski Mountaineering disciplines.
In Alpine Skiing, Nordic Skiing and Snowboarding, J&K have least expectations thanks to the downgrading standards that have been witnessed from last couple of years.
J&K may win few medals in ski mountaineering, courtesy mockery in the name of sports, as ski-mountaineering doesn’t exist at ground level having held zero National championships till date or District, State events. And competitions held during Games don’t follow International rules and regulations as well so we may fit in some medals to save embarrassment for the hosts.

Meanwhile hosts Ladakh topped the Khelo India Winter Games medal tally after securing two gold medals on the final day of the , swelling their tally to four as the first phase of the tournament concluded.
Thirteen gold medals were at stake in the first phase. In men’s Ice hockey final Indian Army beat ITBP.
Ladakh’s mixed relay team comprising of Stanzin Jampal, Skarma T Sultim, Mohammad Saquaf Raza and Padma Angmo bagged gold medals while as Maharashtra and Telangana bagged silver and bronze medals.
Ladakh emerged winner with seven medals that included four gold medals while as Tamil Nadu bagged five medals including three gold. Maharashtra finished with the maximum number of medals 10, but only two gold.
Telangana with five medals that included two gold finished fourth while as Karnataka with four medals including one gold finished fifth. Army finished sixth with two medals that included one gold while as ITBP finished seventh with two silver medals.
