Though he cited personal reasons as the reason behind decision sources revealed that he resigned due to the incident that marred Rugby championship held at Bakshi Stadium.
“Irfan was confronted by players during recent Rugby championship in front of Sports Council Joint secretary Nazir Ahmad and member Prof Bashir. They even scuffled him and accused him of various wrongdoings,” said a source in sports council.
“It all began with Irfan who has been handling all the affairs related to Rugby in State questioning the officials about certain decision made. It infuriated the players involved and the heated debate started. The debate ended in scuffle and with allegations levied against him in front of various Council officials and the players present,” source said.
