Wasim Jaffer completes 11000 runs in Ranji Trophy, first to do so

First-class veteran and former India opener Wasim Jaffer became the first batsman to breach the 11,000-run mark in Ranji Trophy against Baroda, at the VCA Stadium in Nagpur on Wednesday.

The Vidarbha batsman played a patient knock as he contributed 153 to the side’s total off 284 balls before he ran himself out. He was well supported by skipper Faiz Faizal at the other end, and the duo contributed 300 runs to the scoreboard, before Jaffer took the long walk back to the pavilion.

Jaffer, who made his first-class debut in 1996-97, is still up for the fight. He had earlier said, “I still enjoy playing cricket. That is the most important thing. That motivation hasn’t diminished.”

The 40-year old opener is currently the highest run-scorer in Ranji Trophy cricket, surpassing Amol Muzumdar.
