‘U-23 list was made in consultation with former JKCA secretary in hotel room’

The Under-23 probable list that J&K Cricket Association recently announced for the upcoming limited over tournament according to sources was prepared in consultation with former general secretary of JKCA in a hotel room.

Selection of Under-23 cricket team has been more contentious than the main Ranji team recently with allegations of rampant injustice and discrimination meted out to players.

Before the longer format campaign of Under-23 JK team, there was stay order by J&K High Court on the fielding of team. J&K team had to stop playing match against Goa only after 8 overs bowled. Later two bench judge J&K high Court gave ream go ahead nod.

Apart from that there have been other allegations over the selection process and now as the probable list for limited format has been announced the allegations have again surfaced.

“We saw former general secretary of JKCA going into hotel room of one of the senior selector of JKCA. Team probable list was announced only after that. It seems list was made in consultation with that person,” said a source.

“In the probable list, many deserving players who should have been in first team are missing while there are players who have no solid background and belong to particular clubs,” sources further said.

They further said even the likes Ahmad Banday, Shubham Khajuria who were part of Ranji Trophy and J&K senior T20 teams are in probable list which meant no chance for other players.

“During season a State level player gets few matches to play at national level. If players like Banday and Khajuria play in both senior and junior teams then where from other youngsters get chance. They should have either opted for junior or senior, not both
