NEW DELHI: Months after he was reportedly snubbed from the Indian limited-overs team on account failing the Yo-Yo test, Suresh Raina has successfully cleared it at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.
On Thursday, Raina took to his social media accounts announcing the news while thanking his support staff for helping him clear the test which has now become a benchmark for international cricketers to prove their fitness levels.
“Cleared my Yo-Yo & fitness test today, after days of hard work at #NCA! Received tremendous support from all the trainers, coaches & officials. Thank you all! It’s always so encouraging to train here at #NCA, motivates me to push my limits and bring the best out of me,” he posted on his Intstagram account on Thursday.
According to reports, Raina and Yuvraj Singh had failed the Yo-Yo endurance test following which they were not picked up for the Sri Lanka limited-overs series in August this year.
Rain last played for India back in February in a T20I against England. Form and fitness issues have kept the 31-year-old out of the national team. His recent form in domestic cricket has also been poor where he played in five Ranji Trophy matches for Uttar Pradesh scoring 105 runs at 11.66.
What is Yo-Yo test?
Cones are placed to mark out two lines 20 meters apart. When instructed, a player must run between the two lines and turn when beep goes off.
After each minute, the pace gets quicker. If the line is not reached in time, the player must run to the line turn and try to catch up with the pace within two more ‘beeps’. The test is stopped if the player fails to catch up with the pace within the two ends. The entire process is software-based where the results are recorded. There is a minimum score that players have to clock in order to clear the test.
