Srinagar, J&K: One of Kashmir’s most iconic running events, the Run for Shahrekhaas (Old City), is set to make a grand comeback after nearly a decade. The event, last held in 2015, is being revived by Fucan Sports in collaboration with KSW, with Khyber Cement as the title sponsor. The initiative is further supported by NITians Career Institute, Paristaan Group, Media Line, and Adlife.
Scheduled for May 17, 2026, the 10-kilometre heritage run aims to celebrate the rich cultural legacy of Srinagar’s Old City while promoting a healthy and active lifestyle among youth. The event will begin at the historic Badamwari Garden Gate (Kathidarwaza) at the foothills of Hari Parbat and conclude at Islamia College, Hawal.
The route has been carefully designed to pass through some of the most historically significant landmarks of Shahrekhaas, including Khanqah-e-Moula, Budshah Tomb, Jamia Masjid, Maharaj Gunj, Nowhatta, and several iconic bridges and localities that define the cultural fabric of downtown Srinagar.
Speaking on the occasion, Umar Tramboo, Director Corporate & Strategy at Khyber Cement, said,
“Supporting the ‘Run for Shahrekhaas’ is about more than a race; it’s about celebrating the heritage that defines us. Our ‘Dil Se’ philosophy ensures that the heart of Srinagar remains vibrant and recognized.”
Wasim Ahmed Khan, Chief of Sales & Customer Relations at Khyber Cement, added,
“We are proud to support an event that promotes both health and civic pride. This initiative will inspire youth while bringing attention to the historic significance of Shahrekhaas.”
Organisers emphasized that the revival of the run marks a new beginning for an event that enjoyed immense popularity between 2010 and 2015.
“The aim is to showcase the heritage and culture of downtown Srinagar by covering its historic sites,” said organising secretary Reyaz Wani. “We are grateful to Khyber Group and our supporting partners for helping us bring this legacy event back.”
Top athletes from across the region are expected to participate in the run. Participants will be provided with custom-designed finisher medals, T-shirts, certificates, and refreshments.
Fucan Sports, known for organising high-quality sporting events across Jammu & Kashmir, has an active calendar for 2026, including the upcoming Kashmir Cycling Challenge in June.
The organisers will soon host a logo unveiling ceremony, with several prominent personalities expected to attend, as excitement builds for the much-anticipated return of this historic run.
