Ranji Trophy: Mudhasir, Omar Banday shine as JK dominate on day 2

J&K team dominated the second day as Muhammad Mudhasir first took five-wicket and then Omar Banday scored unbeaten 72 runs in the ongoing Group-B Ranji trophy four day match against hosts Rajasthan at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur on Saturday.

At the end of days play, J&K were on 150 for the loss of one wicket. They were trailing by 180 runs to Rajasthan’s first inning total of 330 runs.

Brushing aside every off field controversy JK team like a well knit unit dominated the day against hosts.

The day started with Rajasthan 249 for the loss of four wickets. They managed to add only 81 runs to their overnight total as whole team got out for 330 runs. Mudhasir who was pick of the bowlers on first day for J&K completed his five wicket haul while as skipper Parvez Rasool took three wickets. Samiullah took two wickets included prize scalp of centurion Robin Bist. For Rajasthan Robin Bist top scored with 113 runs while as A Manaria scored 69.

In reply, J&K got to the solid start with a dominating 100 run stand between openers Ahmad Omar Banday and Shubham Khajuria. Banday was first to complete his half century and that was soon followed by Khajruia. However, J&K lost its first wicket in shape of Khajuria who fell after making brilliant 53 runs with J&K score on 109. Banday who was joined in middle by Pranav Gupta continued to look solid and team didn’t loss any further wicket during the day. At stumps J&K was on 150 for the loss of one wicket, trailing Rajasthan;s first inning total by 180 runs.

Banday was going strong at unbeaten 72 runs from 157 balls that included 10 fours and one six. Pranav was batting on 17.

J&K would like to overhaul the host’s first inning score of 330 runs on third day of play to get the crucial first inning lead. J&K still has solid batting lineup in store with the likes of Ian Dev Singh, skipper Parvez Rasool and Punit Bisht yet to come. (Courtesy Greater Kashmir)
