Questions raised on role of JK Ranji team coaches

With players under scrutiny for their performance in the ongoing Ranji Trophy tournament, questions are also being raised on the role of three coaches that are with the J&K team.Manhas Qayoom Majid

J&K Ranji trophy side Saturday suffered its third straight defeat in the ongoing Ranji trophy tournament, this time at the hands of Kerala. While many are raising questions over selection, many over performance of players, the three coaches that are part of team support have not eluded the scrutiny. The questions are being raised on their role with the team that includes some of the known faces of the J&K cricket.

J&K team has got Chief Coach in shape of Mithun Manhas , Assistant coach Majid Dar and bowling coach Abdul Qayoom Bagaw. While the players will only get match fee these three coaches will get their respective Contract money plus allowed match fee. It is double bonanza for these three coaches and the results are still humiliating.

Manhas reportedly has been contract to Rs: 35 lakhs per season while as Dar and Bagaw are reportedly on contracts of Rs: 5 lakhs each. If true in total J&K Cricket Association has contracted three coaches for Rs: 45 lakhs for the season. They also tend to get their share of match fee which rises total sum to around 55 lakhs or 60 lakhs.

The common question that is being asked is the role of these three coaches as they did not train any players before start of the season. They are getting their money for mere sitting in dressing room while the primary role of coaches is to prepare teams for the season.

“The old adage, “when you fail to prepare be prepared to fail” holds true for JKCA across all age groups and fixtures. Players alone are not to be blamed, the onus lies on the apex cricketing body whose internal bickering has consumed it within and left everyone associated in lurch. Nepotism rules the roost and to make the matters wors, non professionals are part of advisory board unofficially,” wrote Mubashir Hassan, a qualified coach and Director Sports Council Cricket Academy.

Top women coach of J&K, who has been associated with BCCI from last many years wrote, Rooplai Slathia, “Parvez is doing well but in cricket team should support . Sending big names as coaches with the team will not work. On the match day you can’t coach the players. Coaches should be with the team at preparatory time. J&K cricket need to follow the proper programme, otherwise things will remain same”.

“It is shocking that JKCA is wasting money on these useless practices. Coaches have no role in matches and they have role I pre-season. It is total waste of money and it could have been used for development of cricket back home,” wrote one Saqib on facebook.

Asif, another fan wrote, “Rs:35 lakhs and Rs: 5 lakhs for coaches. Are you joking. Whose money they are wasting. It is money of players and should be spent on players and cricket development. Instead they are wasting it on useless coaches who have no role in performance of J&K Ranji team”.

“Sack these coaches ASAP. Send them home as result is not going to improve with their presence,” he added.
