UFC light weight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov’s father Abdulmanap has passed away from COVID-19 complications.
Abdulmanap was battling the virus for months but ultimately has succumbed to it. The news was confirmed by Abdelaziz, Khabib’s manager, on Twitter on Friday.
Abdulmanap, an MMA coach, was hospitalised in Moscow in May, with coronavirus complications impacting an existing heart condition. Khabib, 31, confirmed on social media at the time that his father was in a critical condition.
His dad had a serious heart condition that required surgery a year earlier, putting him at risk for a bad outcome with COVID.
His situation seemed to be improving in June, when Abdelaziz told ESPN, “He opened his eyes, responding a little bit — good sign. Allah is in control”.
Khabib’s dad was his longtime coach and a critical member of his team. And, his dad was successfully as his son Khabib rose to top of UFC beating players like Conor McGregor.
Khabib’s family has been devastated by coronavirus … he says more than 20 of his relatives have tested positive.
Abdulmanap was 57.
