Srinagar: Putting rest to the speculation that football activities would kick off in Kashmir shortly, known football club of State, Iqbal Sports has decided to stop all its activities for the 2016 season.
Iqbal Sports run two private clubs in J&K, Iqbal Sports senior and Young Iqbal. Apart from taking part in top football events of State, Club also train youngsters on daily basis.
However, since the Kashmir Unrest started in July, club has not organized a single practice session and has planned to seize all activities toll next season.
“We would like to inform all our players, coaches and trainees that Club will not be holding or taking part in any event this season. We have decided this after getting regular queries from players and trainees regarding the events and practice sessions,” said Chairman, Iqbal Sports Bashir Ahmad Malik.
“We participated in no event this season due to Unrest and players have been sitting idle. Now it is not possible to restart training sessions with winter approaching. Normally during winter months we seize our activities. Club will restart training in March next year,” he said.
J&K State Sports Council has been trying hard to revive the football activity in valley and held meeting with football coaches and J&K football Officials recently. However, despite the efforts activity has not kicked off.
