Chief Executive Officer (CEO) J&K Cricket Association (JKCA), Syed Ashique Hussain Bukhari on Sunday termed open selection trials for selecting J&K T20 team a chance for talented cricketer to secure place in the squad.
Quoting Bukhari, Greater Kashmir report said that in in open trials everyone will get a chance to be part of the J&K T20 team.
“Selectors wanted to hold trial cum camp for only shortlisted players. However I insisted on to hold open selection trial so that everyone gets chance to make a case for himself,” he said.
“Players hailing from Kashmir province can join open selection trial on December 25, 26 or even December 27. Instead of holding trial for chosen ones who are already under radar, open trial is a chance for those unknown players whom no one knows to prove their talent. You never know what you will see in open selection. May be we will find a raw talent that no one had seen before,” Bukhari said.
He said that due to change in schedule of T20 league they were not given enough time to prepare for the selection process systematically.
“After Ranji trophy, J&K were scheduled to start its next campaign in February for One-Dayers. However, BCCI in view of upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) player’s auction brought T20 event forward. That took us off-guard and we had to announce trial dates in hurry for T20 selection”.
“As it is open selection trial we expect around 200 cricketers to turn up. To bear the expenses of all those would be too difficult for the association”.
JKCA CEO announced the selection trial dates for J&K T20 selection. The order reads, “JKCA is going to conduct open trials to short list the talented cricket players from J&K for Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament from December 25 at GGM Science College Jammu, order issued by CEO from JKCA headquarters Sonwar reads. All the cricket players having good talent of cricket playing and are interested to participate in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T-20 tournament being held at Delhi from January 8, 2018 to 16 are informed to attend open selection trials being held at GGM Science College Jammu on the scheduled date so, that players will be shortlisted for the said tournament.”
The order clarified that the players who are going to attend the trials at Jammu shall have to arrange live and dine of their own and after expiry of date, no representation will be accepted.
