JKCA appoints former Indian cricketer Ajay Sharma as Sr Men’s Head Coach

Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) on Monday announced the appointment of Ajay Sharma, a former Delhi cricketer, as the head coach of the senior men’s team.

“In order to ensure continuity, the selection committee preferred the
same set of coaches who were selected during the last season but Sanjeev Sharma, Head Coach in the last season was not available due to other commitments. Hence Ajay Sharma who has played for India, Delhi, and HP and holds the record of batting average close to 80 in Ranji Trophy, which is second only to Sh. Vijay Merchant was given nod by the Selection Committee and appointed Head Coach of the Senior Men’s team,” disclosed Brigadier Gupta, Member Administration in a press release.

Ajay Sharma represented India in one Test and 31 ODIs before his career came to standstill due to his alleged involvement in match-fixing. He was banned for life but after 14 years, in 2014, a Delhi District Court cleared him of all charges related to match-fixing.

Welcoming Ajay Sharma, Sunil Sethi and Mithun Manhas, members of the Sub-Committee, hoped that with his expertise and experience, he would contribute immensely to improving the skills and performance of the JKCA team.

He will be joining the Team at Srinagar where the Fitness Assessment cum Conditioning Camp is already underway informed Brig Gupta.
