The extended run of bad form of a seasoned J&K batsman, Ian Dev Singh has been a worrying factor for J&K as it is only worsening with the passage of time. In the last three innings of Ranji trophy tournament, Ian Dev has suffered three straight ducks while as his best score in last 8 innings has been 79 against Rajasthan.
In the total 8 innings of Ranji trophy this year he has scored mere 141 runs with the scores of 79, 21, 6, 3, 22, 0, 0, 0.
The biggest worrying factor is that it is not this year that Ian Dev has failed to perform but his bad patch of form extends to last year as well. In last year’s Vijay Hazare in the 5 innings he played, he only scored 40 runs with the scorers of 2, 13, 1, 0 and 24. In the last 5 T20 he has scored total of 56 runs with the scorers of 0, 22, 6, 1, and 27 runs.
Coming at crucial number with J&K middle order depending on him to perform, Ian Dev has been a complete failure from last year.
It is his past reputation that is continuing him in the team otherwise the performance has been too much downward for him. The recent three back to back ducks have worsened things for him and it is time for him as well as selectors to take a tough call. If in his place there would have been any youngster he may have been dumped long back.
Ian Dev needs to work on himself and even if that means drop himself for the match against Haryana. He needs to get back to the nets and work on his loopholes and come back strongly as J&K needs the stronger Ian Dev and not the vulnerable one.
