With JK T20 team set to clash with Delhi in its third match of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy at Feroz Shah Kotla ground Delhi on Friday, debate is hotting up about the inclusion of failed T20 cricketers like Bandeep Singh and Pranav Gupta in the team in place of some talented youngsters.
It looks like that Jammu province have no other players rather than failed cricketers like Bandeep and Pranav to offer. Despite boosting some of the best talent pool in State, selectors from the province are opting with same failed players. Not only they doing injustice with youngsters but also playing with the outcome of matches for State team.
If we take only stats of T20 in consideration for Bandeep, he averages only 20 having scored 272 runs for JK in 13 innings. He averages similar in 50 overs after having scored 391 runs in 20 innings. In Tests where people say he deserve place, he averages only 27 in 60 innings with total score of 1435.
Despite having failed to perform regularly selectors have sticked with this lad and that puts question mark while selection process.
Another similar case is of Pranav Gupta, his stats are way below than that of Bandeep. In T20’s for which he has been currently selected , Pranav has scored 128 runs in eight innings with the average of 17.85 while as in 50-over format he averages dismal 6.16 in six innings. In Tests he averages 28 having scored 600 runs in 21 innings.
Stats itself tell the story and continuous failure of these players. There needs to be proper investigation held by current JKCA CEO on why selectors have stick with players like from time to time.
Articles on other players who failed to perform for JK at national level will follow.
