Dejected by IPL snub, Parvez Rasool to test his skills in Bangladesh

After double snub in Indian Premier League (IPL) T20 -2017, star all-rounder from J&K, Parvez Rasool is all set to test his skills in List-A Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League.

Gazi Group Cricketers has signed Parvez Rasool as their overseas player for the season. Parvez is expected to be part of the team upto May 30.

The star cricketer who recently emerged as top all-rounder in Ranji trophy with 629 runs and 38 wickets was released by Royal Challenger’s Bangalore (RCB) before the IPL-2017 auction. In the auction Parvez went unsold.

Before 10th edition of IPL started, news was doing circles that Parvez may be signed by Pune Super Giants as their replacement for R Ashwin who got injured. However, Parvez again got a snub as the franchisee opted for rookie spinner Washington Sunder.Parvez rasool1

After getting double snub, Parvez has now decided to play in Bangladesh and on Tuesday left for Dhaka to join Gazi Group Cricketers. For playing in the Dhaka League, Parvez was required to get No Objection Certificate (NOC) from BCCI which  he has obtained.

“It was decision made purely on cricket perspective. I am a player and want to play at highest level wherever I get opportunity. Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League is top 50-Over cricket event of Bangladesh. I have already got NOC from BCCI and currently I am on way to Dhaka,” Greater Kashmir quoted Parvez Rasool .

About his expectations from the league he said, “I made my debut for India in One Day International in Dhaka. I am familiar with the conditions and it favors spin bowling. The conditions are similar to most of the Indian wickets and I am expecting myself to do well”.

Overseas interest in the Dhaka Premier League began to rise in 2013-14, when the tournament was granted List-A status. That season attracted 82 players from outside Bangladesh, including Eoin Morgan, Ravi Bopara, Luke Wright, Jacob Oram and Ryan ten Doeschate.

Last season Indian players were hot property. There were 22 of them in a total of 36 overseas players. Next in terms of number were the Sri Lankans (10).

“It is a high profile event that attracts some of the known players from around the World. Since 2015, BCCI has also allowed its players to take part in as it is List-A. BCCI doesn’t allow its players to take part in T20 events. Apart from overseas players, there will be number of Bangladeshi top cricketers so the competition level would be high,” Parvez said.

About the Club, he said, “I don’t know much about the club yet but they have been previous champions of the league. I was looking for myself to play in competitive cricket and this opportunity came my way that I couldn’t refuse”.

About the IPL snub, he said, “When I went unsold in auction I said that time I keep my trust on Allah and whatever he does will be best for me. I already knew Pune Super Giants will go for Sunder instead of me and so there was no shock for me. In IPL apart from money I would not have got enough cricketing opportunity. In Dhaka League I will get chance to show my talent and skills”. ( Source Greater Kashmir)
