Srinagar: Standing committee member of J&K State Sports Council (JKSSC) Rifat Abdullah on Thursday stormed out of Sports Council meeting chaired by secretary JKSSC Waheed ur Rehman Parra after altercation over sale of sports certificates.
Rifat who was attending meeting of JKSSC and Sports Association meeting, raised the issue of sale of sports certificates by some association to non playing background persons who get admission on sports quota in various professional courses.
He said that JKSSC should consider genuine demands of sports association but at the same time should also see into sale of sports certificate racket.
During his speech Rifat said that some association are running racket of selling sports certificate in lieu of large amount of money. Giving example he said a person has no sports background upto MBBS and then suddenly during MD admission he opts for sports quota admission. It should be seen how the persons suddenly turns out player while being part of grueling MBBS course without having any sports background in past.
He requested JKSSC headed by Parra to look in to this serious matter so that worthy sportspersons don’t get cheated by these crooks.
His statement was supported by various other JKSSC members like Professor Bashir, Zamir Thakur among others. However, during his own speech Parra defending the ‘sale’ and said that if anyone is getting benefit no one should be bothered and JKSS c has no concern with it.
Aghast over the statement of Parra, Rifat stormed out of the meeting and said that he will not tolerate to be part of the body that justifies sale of the sports certificates.
“Instead of taking matter seriously, secretary JKSSC Parra said that he has no problem with it. He said that if anyone is getting benefit of sports we should not be bothered about it and JKSSC has no concern with that. His words mean that he encourage and justify sale of certificates,” Rifat said.
“I can’t tolerate to be part of the body that kills merit and encourage sale of sports certificates,” Rifat added.
Rifat is contemplating on resigning from the Council over the issue and said that he will directly send that to Chief Minister who is President of the JKSSC.
