Bangladesh’s Mominul Haque equals Virat Kohli’s record of most Test tons in 2018

Bangladesh batsman Mominul Haque equalled Virat Kohli’s record of most Test ton in 2018, during the ongoing Test against West Indies in Chittagong. With a ton on the first day, the left-handed batsman scored his fourth ton of the year. Coming into bat at number three right in the first over of the game, Mominul first ensured that Bangladesh do not crumble under pressure. He and Imrul Kayes shared 104 runs for the 2nd wicket.  Mominul Haque

In the 50th over the game, Mominul reached the three-figure mark with a four off Roston Chase in just 135 balls. His innings came to an end on the ninth delivery after tea break off Shanon Gabriel. The right-arm pacer forced a comeback for West Indies three more wickets in quick succession. At one stage, the home side was four down for 222 and at present, they are struggling at 235/7.

Mominul has made the race interesting as he plays three more innings in 2018 while India play three more Tests before the end of this year, which means that Kohli will have six innings to go past the Bangladeshi batsman.

The Indian skipper shone with the bat in England in tough conditions and is expected to continue his golden run in Australia as well. Brendon Taylor, Usman Khawaja, Kraigg Brathwaite, Kusal Mendis, Aiden Markram and Joe Root come next to Kohli and Mominul in terms of most tons in 2018.

Kohi is presently leading the charts in terms of most runs this year as he is the only batsman to score over 1000 runs. No other batsman has even touched the mark of 900. Mominul has scored 632 runs in 13 innings at 48.61.
