Babar Azam creates history on Indian soil with win over the Netherlands

Srinagar: Pakistan and Babar Azam achieved a historic first on Indian soil by defeating Netherlands by 81 runs in the second match of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 in Hyderabad on Friday.

With this win Babar Azam and Co. has created history as they become the first Pakistan side to register a win in the World Cup on Indian soil. In the previous three World Cups in India (1987, 1996 and 2011), Pakistan never won a match.

Meanwhile Pakistan posted a total of 286 for all wickets.

Despite a great start to their innings, the Netherlands could not hold on to the momentum and kept on losing wickets at regular intervals and were all-out for 205 runs.

Left-handed opener Vikramjit Singh and all-rounder Bas de Leede top-scored for their side with 52 and 67 runs respectively.

Meanwhile, all of Pakistan’s six bowlers picked up wickets with Haris Rauf taking three, Hasan Ali bagging two and Shaheen Afridi, Shadab Khan, Mohammad Nawaz and Iftikhar Ahmed grabbing one each.
