Srinagar, July 26: The Swim N Survival Society Kashmir (SSSK) marked World Drowning Prevention Day with a series of awareness and sporting activities at M2 Café Swim Pool, Tankipora, aimed at promoting water safety and reducing drowning-related incidents through education and practical demonstrations.
The programme featured Sub-Junior Boys and Girls Swimming Competitions, with young swimmers displaying impressive talent and enthusiasm in a competitive yet encouraging environment.
As part of the awareness campaign, organizers screened a short educational film on drowning prevention, highlighting the importance of water safety, responsible supervision, and lifesaving techniques. The session was attended by children, parents, and swimming enthusiasts who were educated on preventive measures and emergency response during water-related accidents.
A major attraction of the event was a live drowning rescue demonstration conducted by Sheikh Rashid and Mudasir Chesti, who showcased essential rescue techniques, emergency response procedures, and lifesaving skills. The practical demonstration received appreciation from the audience for emphasizing the significance of timely intervention in drowning emergencies.
The young participants also captivated spectators by demonstrating their swimming abilities, reflecting the growing interest in aquatic sports and water safety education among children in the Valley.
Prize Distribution Ceremony
The valedictory function was presided over by Shakeel Ahmad Shah, President of the Swim N Survival Society Kashmir, who attended the event as the Chief Guest. He distributed medals, participation certificates, and prizes among the winners and participants while congratulating the young swimmers for their spirited performances.

Among those present on the occasion were Imran Ahmad, Riyaz Wani, Yasir Makdoomi, Zahid Iqbal, Monis, and Nasir, who appreciated the efforts of the Swim N Survival Society Kashmir in promoting swimming, water safety awareness, and drowning prevention among children and the wider community.
The event concluded with a renewed commitment from the organizers to continue conducting awareness programmes and swimming initiatives to encourage safe practices around water while nurturing young swimming talent in Jammu & Kashmir.
