Srinagar: International cyclist, Muhammad Akber Khan who plays for TCI Max, and recently became first ever cyclist to win Inter-University medals, will be leading JK State cycling team in National cycling championship.
J&K Cycling Association conducted selection trial for 21st National Road Cycling Championship scheduled to be conducted by Cycling Federation of India at Aligarh, U.P from November 5 to 8at MA Stadium, Jammu on October 26.
Cyclists from Jammu and Kashmir under senior, junior and sub junior categories were selected under the supervision of General Secretary, J&K Cycling Association Om Parkash, And Ajay Kumar NIS Coach.
Akber on the basis of top performance in national arena over last two years was given direct entry into the team. He was given relaxation from participating in the selection trials. However, he did take part screening conducted by Sports Council.
He is the major hope for JK team to earn medal in the event. He already has got two national medals under his bag and is defending champion in Indian made cycling category.
While among other notable selected player, Anzil Qadimi is making comeback in the team after long hiatus. Another notable cyclist of valley Umer Nabi chose to skip trials owing to being out of practice.
