SRINAGAR, November 2: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty jointly flagged off the Kashmir Marathon 2.0 – 2025 in Srinagar on Sunday, transforming the city’s streets into a celebration of sportsmanship, peace, and tourism.

The grand event, organised by the Department of Tourism, Kashmir, in association with the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council, began at 6 AM from Polo View and took participants along the scenic Boulevard Road overlooking Dal Lake, offering runners a breathtaking view of the Valley’s iconic beauty.

This year’s edition witnessed a record participation of over 1,500 runners from 27 Indian states and Union Territories, alongside 77 international athletes from 11 countries, reinforcing Kashmir’s growing global appeal as a hub for adventure sports and wellness tourism.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who also ran in the 21-kilometre half marathon, lauded the initiative, highlighting how such events project the Valley’s image as a land of peace, vitality, and opportunity. Senior government officials, bureaucrats, and Bollywood personalities joined in cheering the participants.

Speaking at the ceremony, Suniel Shetty expressed his admiration for the enthusiasm of the local participants.

“People are running for Kashmir and for India. It’s heartwarming to witness the energy and unity here. I am delighted to be part of this initiative and hope to return every year,” he said.
