Glenn Maxwell Announces Retirement from International Cricket After 14-Year Career

Dubai: Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has called time on his 14-year international career, bringing an end to an eventful journey that saw him win three ICC World Cup titles and establish himself as one of the most destructive white-ball cricketers.

Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has announced his retirement from international cricket, ending a distinguished career spanning 14 years.

The 38-year-old last represented Australia in their final fixture of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 against Oman before deciding to step away from international cricket.

Maxwell made his international debut in 2012 and went on to represent Australia in 149 One-Day Internationals, 130 T20 Internationals and seven Test matches. During his career, he was part of three major ICC title-winning campaigns, lifting the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in 2015 and 2023, along with the T20 World Cup in 2021.

Widely regarded as one of the most explosive batters in modern-day cricket, Maxwell made a significant impact, particularly in the limited-overs formats. His ability to change the course of a match with aggressive batting, innovative strokeplay and useful off-spin made him a valuable member of the Australian team.

One of the defining moments of his career came during the 2023 ODI World Cup when he produced a remarkable unbeaten double century against Afghanistan. Battling severe cramps, Maxwell scored 201 not out to guide Australia to an extraordinary three-wicket victory while chasing 292 runs. The innings remains one of the most memorable performances in World Cup history.

In 149 ODIs, Maxwell accumulated 3,990 runs at an impressive strike rate of 126.7. His T20 International record was equally remarkable, with 2,897 runs at a strike rate of 154.4.

Beyond his batting contributions, Maxwell also proved his worth as a bowling option, finishing his international career with 10 centuries and 136 wickets across all formats.

His retirement marks the end of an era for Australian cricket, with Maxwell leaving behind a legacy built on match-winning performances, remarkable versatility and an ability to deliver under pressure.
