Against India, we never finish the line: Shakib Al Hasan after close defeat

Srinagar: Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan has said that against India his side always come close but never finish the line to win the match.

Shakib Al Hasan said this in a post match presentation after India beat Bangladesh by six runs in the match of T20 World Cup.

“Yes. It has been the story when we play against India. We are almost there but we never finish the line. It was a good game of cricket, the crowd enjoyed it and both teams enjoyed it, and that’s what we want. In the end, someone has to win and someone has to lose,” Shakib said in the post-match presentation.

Earlier in the game, Shakib had won the toss and invited India to bat first; Virat Kohli shined again for the side, as he smashed an unbeaten 64 off just 44 deliveries while KL Rahul also returned to run-scoring with a much-needed 50 off 32 balls. India put on a strong score of 184/6 in 20 overs before restricting Bangladesh to 145/6 in 16 overs, with the revised target being 151.

At one stage before rain stopped the play, Bangladesh were cruising with Liton Das smashing India bowlers all over the park.

“He’s (Litton Das) our best batsman going around. The way he batted in the powerplay gave us a lot of momentum and gave us the belief that we could chase this with the short boundaries here. If you look at India’s top four, they are very dangerous. Our plan was to get those 4 and that’s why we bowled Taskin through. Unfortunately he did not pick wickets but he was very economical,” Shakib added.

Meanwhile Vira Kohli was adjudged as player of the match. Asked about his form and is hy back to his best, Kohli said, “Pretty close game, not as close as we would’ve liked it to be. It was another good day with the bat I guess, was trying to play myself into the innings. When I went in there was pressure, was watching the ball well. To answer your question, I would just say that I’m just in a happy space, I don’t want to compare anything. What’s in the past is in the past”.
