Srinagar: In a major statement, the International Cricket Council (ICC) top official has indicated that Pakistan is likely to play its Cricket World Cup 2023 matches in neutral Country.
ICC General Manager Wasim Khan has said that he believes that Pakistan might end up playing their matches at a neutral venue instead of India.
India has refused to travel to Pakistan for the upcoming 2023 Asia Cup. Under new proposed model, other teams would play their matches in Pakistan, while the Indian team would play their matches in another country.
Now, according to media reports, Pakistan is also considering the possibility of playing their World Cup matches at a neutral location.
According to reports discussions are underway that could see Pakistan playing its 2023 ODI World Cup matches in Bangladesh. India is the host for the tournament but given the political relations between the two countries, the idea has been discussed at the ICC level, with the hybrid Asia Cup model being looked at as a solution.
“I don’t know if it would take place here on in a different country but a neutral venue is highly likely,” former CEO of the PCB said in an interview with a local TV channel.
“I don’t think that Pakistan will play their matches in India. I think their matches will also be held at a neutral venue just like India’s Asia Cup matches,” Wasim added.
