Srinagar: Former India cricketer turned commentator Aakash Chopra has questioned absence of J&K star pacer Umran Malik from Team India T20 setup, asking what happened to him?.
Umran Malik who is currently part of J&K side in Ranji Trophy has been overlooked in all the Team India formats from quite sometime. He was also not even mentioned for the T20 series vs Afghanistan.
Speaking on his YouTube channel Chopra questioned that absence of the speedster who he thought was in India’s plans during the transition period in the white-ball formats of the game.
“Till some time back, Umran Malik was everywhere. We took him to the West Indies as well and it seemed like he could be in the World Cup team too but now he is not there in any of the teams. He doesn’t even get selected for India A,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
Umran Malik last played for India in the tour of West Indies.
“What happened within three months that a guy first gets selected for the Indian team, gets very minimum chances there, and then goes totally missing? We don’t even know where Umran Malik is. Why isn’t he there? We should know why this is happening,” questioned the former India cricketer.
Umran Malik rose to fame in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League where he picked 22 wickets at a strike-rate of 13.41. He is fastest ever India bowler till date.
