Srinagar: Former Pakistan wicketkeeper batter Kamran Akmal has hit out at Pakistan Cricket Board for focussing on players who aren’t playing in domestic cricket.
Akmal said this in the backdrop of PCB trying to bring back pacer Mohammad Amir in the squad.
“We are making efforts to bring back a player who is trying to settle in England,” Akmal said in an apparent dig at Amir.
“Playing domestic cricket shouldn’t limit a player’s potential, if they excel in all formats of the game, including ODI, T20I, and four-day cricket, and have the ability to make a comeback in Test cricket, they should be given the chance to perform. Age should not be a barrier if the player proves their worth,” he added.
“It’s important to consider the ones who are struggling to make their return to the national team by playing club cricket and showcasing their hard work,” he said.
Akmal questioned Amir’s potential return to the team.
“Our policy and vision should not be limited to specific players such as Amir or Junaid Khan. We need to have a better policy in place that doesn’t discriminate based on past history or reputation,” he concluded.
