Srinagar: In a wholesome heartwarming moment, the Hollywood superstar and WWE legend Dwayne Johnson (The Rock) paid a surprise visit to a UFC fighter Themba Gorimbo on Friday, in Miami.
The Rock had promised to meet Gorimbo after the fighter won his first UFC fight in May and finally fulfilled his promise.
Gorimbo, 32, made his UFC debut earlier this year but lost the fight. However, his first win in the Octagon eventually came in May after which the Zimbabwean opened up about his poor financial condition.
The 32-year-old stated that he only had “$7” to his name before the fight which grabbed the attention of the Rock.
However, after his maiden victory which helped him won $7000, the MMA star auctioned his kit and sent some of his winning money to his village so that they could have clean water.
After hearing this story, the Rock was heavily impressed by Gorimbo’s journey and promised to meet him.
“This is crazy to see and brings back many emotions and memories. $7.49 in this fighter’s bank account. I once had $7 bucks too. I’ve been there on that grind. Got your back, brother. I’ll help. You got this. I’ll be in touch,” The Rock Tweeted.
After surprising the UFC fighter with a visit, Dwayne Johnson Tweeted,” We’ve never met but I had to fly to Miami to look this man @TheAnswerMMA in the eyes, hug him and shake his hand. I’ve been moved & motivated by his story. He recently won his first fight in the @ufc. He had $7 bucks in his bank account when he won. He sleeps on a couch in the gym. After the fight, he sold his fight gear (trunks & gloves) on line and made $7,000. Instead of using the money to find a place to live, he built a bush pump so his village back in Zimbabwe can have clean water. He never asked me for anything, but I just wanted to help the guy out. $7 Bucks ya know. And I felt the MANA & emotion in every hug. Very good and very special day”.
After meeting Gorimbo, it is reported that the Rock gifted the fighter a fully furnished house in Miami.
Gorimbo has often talked about his survival days and stated that one night the police caught him.
The story of the Zimbabwean has helped him gain respect as he became, whatever he is today, due to his hard luck and unmatched determination.
