Srinagar: A brilliant hat-trick by veteran Indian Skipper Sunil Chhetri helped hosts India beat archrivals Pakistan 4-0 in the match of SAFF Championship in Bengaluru on Wednesday.
Chhetri scored two goals from the penalty apart from his 10th minute opener. Udanta Singh scored a late fourth goal for India.
With this hat-trick brought Chhetri’s international tally rose to 90 goals, going past Malaysia’s Mokhtar Dahari on 89 goals to become the second-highest scoring Asian and fourth-highest overall in international football.
India went top of Group A with their four-goal win after Kuwait defeated Nepal 3-1 in the earlier game. India also kept their seventh consecutive clean sheet – an all-time record going past the previous mark of six games set in 1951-52.
Pakistan had arrived in Bengaluru only around six hours ahead of their match against India.
