Rohit Sharma Appointed Ambassador for ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026

Mumbai: India’s cricket icon Rohit Sharma has been officially named the tournament ambassador for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, which will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.

Rohit, who led India to victory in the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup, brings a wealth of experience and prestige to the role. Known for his aggressive batting and strategic acumen, Sharma has been a cornerstone of India’s T20 success. Over his T20I career, he amassed 4,231 runs at an average of 32.01 and a strike rate of 140.89.

Having played in two victorious Men’s T20 World Cups, Rohit made a mark early in the inaugural 2007 edition, scoring 88 runs unbeaten, including vital knocks against South Africa and Pakistan. Nearly two decades later, he captained India to the 2024 T20 World Cup title, ending an 11-year ICC trophy drought for the senior Men’s team. His memorable performances included a blistering 92 off 41 balls against Australia in the Super Eights and 57 off 39 against England in the semi-final.

Following India’s triumph in 2024, Rohit announced his retirement from T20 internationals, marking the end of an illustrious playing career in the shortest format.

On his new role, Rohit Sharma said:
“It is great to have the tournament back in India and for me to be associated once again, this time as the Brand Ambassador. I wish all players the very best and hope they enjoy India’s hospitality while making lifelong memories.”

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 is scheduled to take place from 7 February to 8 March 2026, promising an exciting tournament for fans across India, Sri Lanka, and the world.
