Record breakers Mbappe, Giroud shine as France breeze past Poland into FIFA World Cup quaterfinal

Srinagar: Superstar Kylian Mbappe was at his best and veteran Olivier Giroud was again on target as defending champions France beat Poland 3-1 to storm into quater final of the FIFA World Cup 2022 Qatar on Sunday.

Mbappe struck twice in the second half after Olivier Giroud opened the scoring just before the interval, with the latter becoming the defending champions’ record goalscorer in the process.

Mbappe also become youngest after Brazilian Legend Pele to score five knock out stage World Cup goals. Overall he has now nine goals in World.
Robert Lewandowski scored an added-time penalty – which needed to be retaken after Hugo Lloris saved his first spot kick but was off his line early – to grab some consolation for Poland.

The result means France will take on the winner of England and Senegal’s last-16 clash in the quarters on Saturday evening.
