Real Kashmir FC eyes another impressive show on Saturday vs Shillong

Srinagar Dec 15: Real Kashmir Football Club (RKFC) is gearing up to maintain their impressive defensive record as they go up against Shillong Lajong FC in an upcoming I League match at TRC Ground, Srinagar on Saturday.

RKFC has been consistent in their performance in this I League so far, conceding only four goals in nine games. In the last five games, Kashmir’s home team has not conceded any goal. It has been the key to their success and the team has risen rapidly in the standings to find themselves third with 17 points from nine games, including five wins, two draws and two losses.

During a pre-match press conference on Friday, RKFC head coach Ishfaq Ahmad acknowledged the strength of Shillong Lajong FC, highlighting their consistent performance. He emphasized the need for RKFC to bring their best game to secure favorable results.

Ishfaq praised RKFC players for their commendable performance, saying that they have allowed only four goals thus far. He credited the team, especially the defense, for playing at a high level and expressed optimism that they will continue their strong performance. “Like defenders and goalkeeper, our strikers also played good football,” he said.

When asked after Saturday’s match, they have to play many away games on natural turf in contrast to the artificial turf at TRC Srinagar, he explained, “Playing on natural and artificial turf has different effects. In the last away game on natural turf, we won 4-0. Adjusting from artificial to natural turf is challenging; players need time. Despite the challenges, we must overcome them and secure victories.”

RKFC player Carlos Lomba, a native of Portugal, said he has been to India for the first time. “Everyone treated me very well. Locals in Kashmir are also getting an opportunity to perform. They are taking opportunities very seriously and performing well.”

Shillong Lajong FC head coach Bobby L Nongbet said they hope for a good match on Saturday.

“RKFC is in good form. They are on high. We have really worked hard and hopefully will get good results,” he added.

Player Renan Paulino De Souza also addressed the media. The match is scheduled to start at 2 pm.
