With a five-wicket-haul against West Indies on day one at Dominica, Ravichandran Ashwin breached the 700-wicket mark in international cricket.
The off-spinner became just the third Indian cricketer to take 700 wickets after Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh.
Ashwin has been India’s leading spinner for years now. He has been exceptional, especially at home. However, the offie often gets dropped in overseas Tests, which has been criticsed quite a few times.
The wicket at Dominica seemed quite dry and Ashwin didn’t need an invitation to wreak havoc. He enjoyed bowling on this surface and Windies batters seemed to have no response.
West Indies was bundled out on meagre 150-run total. In response, Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal finished the day on top. They returned unbeaten with scorecard reading 80/0 in 23 overs.
