Hosts J&K were in full control at the end of the first day’s play in Ranji Trophy match against Tripura at Sheri-Kashmir Cricket Stadium Srinagar on Tuesday.
Parvez Rasool took 5 wicket haul while as Irfan Pathan shined with both and ball to help J&K get 30 run lead at the end of days play after having bundled out Tripura for 124 runs.
Leading the way was J&K skipper Parvez Rasool with 5/30, backed by player-cum-mentor Irfan Pathan who followed two wickets with an unbeaten 47 off 53 balls.
Tripura captain BB Ghosh’s decision to bat did not go do to plan. He was trapped lbw by Irfan Pathan for zero in the opening over the match and no batsman crossed 34 as the visiting team struggled to forge partnerships. Ninad Kadam, the No 3, top-scored with 34 from 92 balls and wicketkeeper Smit Patel was the next highest scorer with 21. Rasool mopped up the lower order with five wickets in 10 overs while Irfan finished with 10-2-17-2.
Shubham Kajuria cracked eight fours and a six in his 56-ball 52 to power a start of 70 in 15.5 overs, before Ian Dev Singh Chauhan (27*) and Irfan took the score to 154/1 by stumps. The opener Ahmad Omar Banday was forced to retire hurt on 26
