While Team India selectors indirectly hinted to MS Dhoni that his T20I career is over by dropping him from the upcoming T20 series, back in J&K State similar story may be unfolding as selectors dropped the senior pacer Samiullah Beigh from the Ranji Trophy team.
J&K Cricket Association recently announced the 16-member squad for the first two tests of J&K team and it didn’t included the senior pacer who has been part of almost every J&K Ranji trophy squad in past decade.
Though the pacer had last year announced his retirement from shorter format of the game, he had made himself available for the longer version of the game. He even jumped into the selection fray by joining the preparation camp held at Sheri Kashmir Cricket Stadium.
In the 61 First Class matches, Samiullah has taken 158 wickets with the average of 38.77. He has taken eight five wicket hauls. In batting he has scored 1739 runs at an average of 22.29. His highest score is 109* and he has scored 9 fifties in the process.
By now missing the J&K Ranji trophy bus, there is speculation that it is end of the road for the veteran pacer. However, in cricket no one can say what will happen next and in JK cricket nothing is impossible.
There is so much of politics and internal rivalries going on in J&K cricket, it is possible that anything can happen at any time.
Leaving politics and rivalries aside, everyone in J&K cricket circles would be keeping keen eye on the next move of the veteran pacer.
