Jammu: Jammu & Kashmir continued its remarkable run in the Ranji Trophy 2025-26 season, steamrolling Hyderabad by a commanding 281-run margin to secure its third outright win in Group D on Wednesday at the JKCA Sports Hostel & Science College Ground, Jammu.
The final day’s play was nothing more than a formality. With the writing already on the wall overnight, the remaining job took J&K a mere 25 minutes and 4.5 overs.
Abid Mushtaq’s Magical 7-Wicket Spell
Left-arm spinner Abid Mushtaq, who had already wrecked Hyderabad on day three, finished the job in style. He returned exceptional figures of 7 for 68, dismantling the remaining batting order with precision and craft.
Mushtaq delivered a sensational ball to dismiss overnight batter Aniketh Reddy — pitching outside leg, turning sharply, and crashing into middle and off stump. Hyderabad never recovered.
Within minutes, Rakshann Readdi and B. Punnaiah fell to quicker, skidding deliveries that trapped both batters in front, sealing J&K’s emphatic triumph.
“I realised early that the pitch was tough, so I kept attacking the rough outside off stump,” Mushtaq said after the win. “Whenever I get a chance, I want to contribute to my team.”
Aquib Nabi’s Consistency Draws Praise
Pacer Aquib Nabi, who has been in red-hot form this season, once again played a pivotal role earlier in the match. Known for his disciplined lines and late swing, Nabi credited his approach to keeping things simple.
“I only focus on bowling in good areas. Krishna Kumar sir always reminds me of that,” Nabi said.
Bowling coach Krishna Kumar, while praising Nabi, added, “He has the rare ability to swing the ball both ways at will. The hard work is clearly paying off. He’s taking five-fors almost every match — I strongly believe he will play for India very soon.”
Team Culture Driving Success
Kumar also highlighted the team’s exceptional environment and unity as a major factor behind J&K’s rise this season.
“The atmosphere is outstanding. The players back each other, never criticise, and support anyone who makes a mistake. That sense of responsibility and accountability is our X-factor.”
With this dominant win, Jammu & Kashmir continue to strengthen their position as one of the top-performing teams in the Group D standings, sending a powerful message for the rest of the season.
