Quetta Gladiators Spinner Usman Tariq Reported for Suspect Action

Quetta Gladiators’ mystery spinner Usman Tariq, who has impressed with his unusual bowling style and economical spells in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) season, has been reported for a suspect bowling action.

Tariq, a debutant in the 2024 PSL, caught the eye with his unique action and ability to deceive batsmen. However, during a recent match against Karachi Kings, match officials Richard Illingworth and Asif Yaqoob raised concerns about the legality of his delivery stride and arm movement.

Following the match, the on-field umpires reported Tariq’s action to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for further assessment. While this doesn’t immediately bar him from playing, a cloud of uncertainty hangs over his participation until his action is deemed legal by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

The Quetta Gladiators, in an attempt to clear Tariq’s name, have requested the PCB to allow him to undergo a bowling action test supervised by ICC authorities. The PCB has confirmed that a test will be conducted at a board-approved facility in due course.

This development comes as a setback for both Tariq, who was emerging as a potential match-winner for his team, and the Quetta Gladiators, who were relying on his skills. Fans will have to wait and see if Tariq can clear the bowling action test and continue his impressive run in the PSL.
