The brilliant unbeaten fighting knock by 71 runs by skipper Parvez Rasool lead J&K to a second win in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy against strong Tamil Nadu at M A Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on October 7.
Needing 168 runs to win off J&K achieved target in last over with 3 balls to spare for the loss of 6 wickets. It was the lone fighting knock played by J&K skipper who remained not out on 71 as J&K registered its second win in the tournament. Parvez remained unbetean on 71 off 70 that included 2 sixes and 3 boundaries. Waseem Raza remained unbeaten at other end on four and hit the winning run. After coming on to the crease Parvez formed 68 run stand with Shubham Pundir. Then he stood his ground while wickets kept falling at other end. In the end he carried his team to home with 19th List-A fifty of his career. Among others Shubham Pundir scored 30 and Shubham Khajuria scored 24 for J&K. It is second consecutive win for J&K in the event after having suffered six successive defeats.
To beat strong Tamil Nadu side on their home turf is not mean feat for J&K.
Earlier J&K bowlers lead by Umar Nazir shined as they bundled out Tamil Nadu for 168 runs. J&K in this match rested Irfan Pathan and Mohammad Mudhasir and brought in Rohit Sharma. The young upcoming pacer Rasikh Salam gave J&KJ first breakthrough on the score of 19 runs. After that Abhinav Mukund and M Vijay formed a big stand that was broken by Waseem Raza. The J&K spinner clean bowled Mukund on 49 with score on 101. After that wickets kept falling at regular intervals with Tamil Nadu bundling out for 168 runs in 39.4 overs failing to play all 41 allotted overs.
For J&K Umar Nazir picked four wickets while as Waseem Raza, Rasikh Salam and Rohit Sharma took two wickets each.
