Pakistan Cricket Turmoil: Chief selector Inzamam ul Haq resigns

Srinagar: The turmoil in Pakistan cricket is deepening day by day and latest is the resignation of Pakistan cricket team chief selector Inzamam ul Haq.

“People speak without research. Questions were raised on me so I decided that it was better I resign,” Inzamam said in a statement according to Geo News.

“If PCB wants to investigate me, I am available. People are talking [about me] without having any kind of proof, if there is any, then bring it. I have asked the PCB to do the same,” Inzamam said.

“I have no connection with the player agent company, these types of accusations hurt me,” he added.

Inzamam further added that he will sit down with the PCB officials once the situation is back to normal.

“I was told on a phone call that a five-member committee has been created, so I told the board that as long as the investigation is going on, I better resign.

“When everything is back to normal and [the air has been clear], I will sit down with the PCB again.”

There have been reports that Inzamam was about to face an inquiry after reports emerged on the news claiming that the former cricketer was a stakeholder in certain players’ agent firms.

It was also reported that the chief selector selected the World Cup 2023 squad while keeping the firm’s interest in mind.

Inzamam was appointed as the chief selector of the men’s national team on August 7 by the then-newly appointed head of the PCB Management Committee, Zaka Ashraf, after he assumed the role in July.

Before that, Inzamam served as chief selector from 2016 to 2019.
