‘Other players got short bans for similar offences, 3-year-ban harsh’: Kamran Akmal

Umar and Kamran Akmal

Srinagar, April 28: Three-year-ban on Umar Akmal was harsh as other players with similar offences got shorter bans, said Pakistan cricketer Kamran Akmal who is the sibling of Umar.

The right-handed batsman was handed a 3-year-ban following the charges of not reporting the spot-fixing proposals. Kamran, however, believes it was a harsh call and he will challenge the decision.

“Definitely it is hard to understand because other players in the past have got short bans for similar offences. Yet Umar has got such a harsh punishment,” he said.

Once considered the future of Pakistan team, Umar has been in the limelight for all wrong reasons in the recent times. The cricketer also faced a sharp criticism from several former cricketers.

Celebrated commentator Ramiz Raja, following the news of Umar’s ban, lashed out at him, saying he is lastest addition to the ‘list of idiots’.
