Not enough time for experimentation: Shadab Khan echoes Imam’s words

Srinagar: Echoing words of opener Imam ul Haq, Pakistan all-rounder Shadab Khan has said that there is no time for experimentation and frequent changes in Pakistan cricket team ahead of Asia Cup and World Cup.

“Selectors must better know about the squad, but I believe as a player, in my opinion, when you get regular opportunities, you perform better,” said Shadab was quoted by Cricket Pakistan.

“Along with that, we don’t have enough time to shuffle or make frequent changes. We should go with the same team for the World Cup or Asia Cup because this team is gelled and has been performing consistently,” he added.

Asia Cup is likely to be played in September this year, whereas the World Cup is due to be played in the months of October and November.

Pakistan recently thrashed New Zealand 4-1 in a five-match ODI series.

“The confidence that comes with good performance is different and boosts your morale extensively,” he said.

“Almost every player in the squad has performed well, and when you participate in any big tournament with a same combination of players, then your overall performance as a unit leaves a robust impact on the field.”

Shadab’s comments have come after Imam-ul-Haq had made a statement during the recent Pakistan New Zealand series.

“To be honest I don’t think so because we don’t have time to do experiments,” Imam had said after the third ODI.

“With Agha [Salman], Shadab [Khan], and [Mohammad] Nawaz, we have enough power-hitting to improvise. It’s just a matter of giving them confidence. Their stats aren’t as big as we have in the top three and it’s tough for them because they get five to six overs but their chip-in is impactful and useful.”
