With selectors yet to be appointed for this season, Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA), in another shocking announcement, has named a 47-member shortlist for U-23 trial matches without conducting any open selection trials.
Earlier, JKCA also announced a shortlist for the senior trial matches without holding any trials. However, directly announcing a shortlist for an age group is even more surprising since young players usually wait for whole year to appear in the trials.
Interestingly, last year it was U-25 and most of the players who played for this group are over-aged for U-23. So, on what basis players have been shortlisted for U-23 category is a mystery.
“We sweat it out whole year with just one aim and that is to do well in trials. But when trials won’t be held at all, what’s the whole point? What are we supposed to do now? What criteria have been used to shortlist players? Is JKCA only for a few players?” a group of anguished players told KSW on condition of anonymity.
JKCA has remained silent on all the questions being raised on the selection process. KSW tried reaching out to them several times but is yet to receive a response.
